Why mixing order types causes problems
- The kitchen does not know which order to make first.
- Takeaway orders get packed late while dine-in food goes cold.
- Delivery orders taken on the phone are forgotten or not billed.
- At the end of the day, cash and sales do not match.
Mark the order type on every order
Every order should say clearly whether it is dine-in, takeaway or delivery, and that should show on the KOT. The kitchen can then plate dine-in food and pack takeaway and delivery food correctly the first time.
Dine-in: link orders to tables
For dine-in, attach the order to a table number. When the table orders more, add it to the same table, and make one bill at the end. This avoids missing items and separate bills for one table.
Takeaway: give a token and a time
For takeaway, give the customer an order number and an honest waiting time. Pack food in the order it was taken, and keep a simple ready shelf near the counter.
Delivery: record every order, wherever it comes from
Whether an order comes by phone, WhatsApp or a delivery app, enter it in your billing system as a delivery order. This keeps your kitchen queue and your sales report complete.
Tip: Note the customer’s phone number and address on phone and WhatsApp delivery orders, so repeat orders are quicker next time.
Check the day by order status
Track each order from new to preparing, ready and served or delivered. At closing, make sure every order is billed and paid. Any order still open is either a mistake or money not collected.
